Overcoming Imposter Syndrome
Imposter Syndrome - noun [ U ] /ɪmˈpɒs.tə ˌsɪn.drəʊm/
A psychological pattern where individuals doubt their skills, achievements, or competence, feeling like they are not as capable as others perceive them to be or do not deserve success.
Pursuing entrepreneurship can means you likely know this feeling well. Unfortunately it is also extremely unhelpful causing you to lose confidence in yourself and self sabotage.
Just like everyone else, I suffer from the occasional bout of imposter syndrome too. Often when I’m doing something new or pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve had a lot of DMs recently about what I do to overcome imposter syndrome when it does rear its head and this week we did a deep dive implementation session on Imposter Syndrome inside the Keep It Simple Club, so I thought I’d share some of my go-to journal prompts for overcoming imposter syndrome.
What are you so afraid of?
Who is benefitting from your fear and what would you feel like if you stopped giving it your power?
What would you tell your best friend if they came to you with this exact same challenge and were feeling like an imposter?
What would happen if you let go of this self doubt?
What is one small step you can take today to move closer to where you want to be, silence your inner critic and build confidence?
A Bias For Taking Action
I had a discussion this week about what I think successful people (regardless of the definition of success) have in common and it was this - a strong bias for action.
What does this mean? It means that irrespective of your internal narrative or external uncontrollables, you prioritise and take completely imperfect, and likely small actions, every day.
How do you cultivate it? This isn’t something that comes naturally or easily for most people, mainly because if involves being uncomfortable a lot of the time. In fact it’s a process that I’ve honed and trained for most of my adult life. I find it helpful to think of developing a bias for action like lighting a candle. When I think of something new I want to do or inspiration strikes, as quickly as possible, I light the match. I take the very first small action as fast as I can light a match. That might be starting an email, it might be writing a note, sending a reminder, sending a text or starting a new social media account.
Once the match is lit it is much much easier to maintain the momentum and take the next small step - lighting the candle.
If you’re feeling stuck and you’re not sure what your first action would be, reply to this email and I’ll come back to you with a one-liner on your very first next step.

This week doors have reopened to the Keep It Simple Club as we prepare for the final sprint of 2024.
As you may know, I’m currently working my way through the couch to 5k running programme so when I was thinking about what I could do to help you all reach your financial goals before the end of the year I thought I would adapt the running programme to business.
Exclusively for members, we’re going to work together to do exactly what it says on the tin - go from where you are now to £5k in revenue a month. This target might be just ahead of where you are now, you may have already achieved it (in which case let’s add another £5k!), and for others you might be just starting out and looking for a sprint finish on your financial goals for 2024.
The point is, I wanted to share something that was going to be as plug-and-play and actionable as possible to give you a boost for the end of the year.
Starting on Monday 30th of September inside the Keep It Simple Club you’ll get a step-by-step breakdown of tasks, sample schedules (think of this as a workout plan for your business) marketing calendar, plug and play content templates and live trainings and tutorials around each weekly theme all included in the price of the monthly membership.
What to expect:
An additional weekly Sunday email with a schedule for the week ahead of tasks and what to do when related to the theme of the week
A suggested marketing calendar for the week ahead with relevant themes, trending audio, social media prompts and content marketing ideas (plug and play emails)
A list of 10 minute tasks to check off your list (think b-roll filming list, tech set-up, email to send, exercise to complete)
Recommended Reading / Listening related to the theme of the week
Live trainings from myself and guest experts on everything from growing on social media to building email funnels and leveraging AI.
*Open at this price until Midnight Wednesday 25th September 2024. This is suitable for any business that sells to customers or attracts customers online.
Have a great week ahead & remember to keep it simple.
