Celebrating small wins

Life Update: Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, I hope you are taking some time off over the next few weeks as the world seems to slow down, albeit temporarily!
This week I’ve been struck down with Covid which has put a spanner in the works of my productivity as I’ve been forced to slow down and take it easy. My instant thought was “I don’t have time for this, there’s still so much to do!”. As I spiralled, I caught myself thinking about everything I haven’t achieved instead of everything I have. Sound familiar? At this time of year it’s so easy to focus on what you haven’t done… with a New Year looming and a promise of a fresh start, it’s tempting to forget everything you have managed to do in the last year.
So with this in mind, for this week, I’m focusing on the present rather than racing ahead into the future…
This week’s challenge: reflect on everything you have managed to do this year. What have your wins been? Big or small… they all count.
2024 Wrapped

From my sick bed this week I managed to complete my 2024 year in review exercise. I use the same prompts every year to reflect on how things went and I’m always surprised by what I remember when I choose to focus and celebrate the small wins!
Here’s my year in review and the prompts for you to use over the next few days:
Wins (Big & Small):
What’s one thing you’re proud of from 2024 – no matter how small? - starting to run and sticking with it. I said this would be the year that I focused on my fitness and I’ve actually done it.
What’s a financial or business win that surprised you this year? - we exited our broadband company this year which was not on my 2024 bingo card. It was a huge win and whilst everyone immediately jumps to the financial upside, the biggest win was that we built something and successfully went through the process and all it entails to actually sell a company. I learnt more about organisation and communication in the 6 months we were going through the transaction than in any other experience in my life.
Which personal habit made the biggest difference to your wellbeing or mindset? - Having set days and routine for working out. I’ve never truly nailed this until this year and I’m super proud of myself.
2. Lessons Learned:
What challenge or mistake taught you the most this year? - I thought I was an organised person at the start of this year, now we are at the end, selling Brillband whilst having two children, working 7 days a week and moving house, taught me a lot about prioritisation and time management. I’ve learnt not to sweat the small stuff.
If you could go back to January 2024, what advice would you give yourself? - Don’t forget to eat and drink and prioritise meal prep!
What’s one thing you’ll do differently in 2025? - Meal prep!
3. Money Management:
What was the best financial decision you made this year? - Using round-ups on all transactions and over-paying on debt.
Where did you unintentionally waste money – and how can you avoid it next year? - Subscriptions I wasn’t using any more!
What’s one small shift you can make to save or invest more in 2025? - Meal prep! Those late night trips to the garage for things I’ve forgotten because I haven’t prepped our meal plan properly are a real killer!
4. Time & Productivity:
What daily habit helped you stay on track? - Walking the dog. Rain or shine, every day we walk and I listen to a book/podcast. It’s my favourite habit stack.
Where did you spend most of your time – and is that where you wanted to spend it? - Handling emails and last minute urgent requests. I spent a lot of time working on other people’s requests of me and my time this year which goes hand in hand with selling a business. So in 2025, I’ll be focusing more on my own agenda rather than everyone elses!
What’s one thing you can automate, delegate, or eliminate next year? - I hate email and I spend as little time in my inbox as possible. 2025 I’m hoping to outsource my emails completely! 😂
5. Looking Ahead:
What’s a small change you can make right now that will make 2025 easier or more profitable? Getting up 30 minutes earlier
What’s one word you want to define your next year? Calm
How do you want to feel when 2025 wraps up? Calm! 😂🎉
I’ll be back next Sunday 29th with a bumper New Year edition… in the meantime Happy Christmas 🎄
