7 life-changing lessons & how to actually achieve your goals
The email that helps you start a business by keeping things simple.
This week:
Update: On Thursday evening I announced something I have been dreaming of for years… The Keep It Simple Club.
After 17 years in the trenches of running and investing in businesses and 18 months of creating content online and building a whole other business in selling digital products there is one thread that weaves it all together.
Taking action.
But when I talk to people online, in my DMs or in my mentorship group - the number one struggle that people face time and time again is managing their time, knowing what to do and showing up consistently.
AKA an action problem.
So I’m here to help. The mantra? Keep. It. Simple.
This is not a community sharing endless streams of information. Instead we’ll have 6 live sessions with me a month where we focus on implementation.
You all know I like to give the details up front, so doors will be open on Monday 5th August for 48hrs at £37 per month and you can cancel any time.
If that sounds like something you might be interested in then you can join the waitlist below.
Question to ask yourself this week: What would 90 year old me look back and be glad I did?
Words to live by: Less consuming, more creating.
What’s working: Objectives and Key Results
I’ve been using the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) method for the last 8 years and it’s honestly been transformative. Why? Because having OKRs instead of just SMART goals actually gives you a solid action plan to follow in order to achieve your them.
Here’s how it breaks down: the objective is the overarching thing you want to achieve aka THE WHAT.
Example: to generate an additional £300,000 in revenue in 12 months.
Key results on the other hand are HOW you actually achieve something.
Example: launch two new digital products, grow email newsletter to 25,000 subscribers, work with 3 brands on content collaborations.
Key Results are also things you tick off when you achieve them and can be broken down into smaller sub-tasks such as, write brand outreach email, brainstorm ideas for digital products, launch freebie opt-in.
I shared more detail on how to set OKRs and a behind the scenes look at how I plan out my own in notion in my two plan with me sessions I hosted this week. If you missed them live or you want to see the recording you can get access below.
Advice that changed my life
I was asked in an interview this week what my advice for someone who was just starting out in business would be.
Usually I say, know your numbers, make sure there is a market for what you are selling and be prepared to be in this for the long-haul. All solid advice I think! But this week I found myself adding something else to the list. Get a coach. Someone who has been through the hard yards of business before (ideally many many times over) and is performance/mindset focused, not someone who just happens to be good at marketing on Instagram!
I’m a huge advocate of getting a coach when you run a business however I realise and appreciate that often isn’t an option when you are just starting out.
With this in mind, here are 7 life-changing lessons I learnt from my own coach that might help you:
Hold things more lightly
If you aren’t getting the answers you seek ask better questions
You already know what to do, you just aren’t doing it
Ask yourself if you are making this hard than it needs to be
Take a break, you set the timelines, you can move them
Faster isn’t always better
Listen to your wisdom
